My Style

I provide therapy for clients over 18 years old, with a focus on body liberation from eating disorders and the guilt and shame that often accompany disordered eating.

I click with clients who have a history with diet culture and disordered eating and have stopped or are ready to stop dieting. Maybe you’ve been through treatment for an eating disorder but are no longer in active recovery. If you need a safe space to work through your ongoing, ever-changing relationship to food and your body, I’m here for you.

I’m honored to learn and grow alongside my clients, and to incorporate the principles of intuitive eating, radical acceptance, and social justice as we undo our own fat-phobia throughout the course of our relationship.

Our culture punishes people in larger bodies, and in turn, we punish ourselves for not looking a certain way or being an “ideal” shape or size. Through that, we become disconnected from our ability to eat when we’re hungry and stop when we’re full. It takes practice to tune back into what our bodies truly need. I’m here to help you get there, and to realize that you are so much more than your body.

My approach is rooted in body liberation, fat acceptance, and intuitive eating.

What I help with

  • I work with people with an ED diagnosis as well as those who are undiagnosed. Body liberation - the freedom from systemic oppression that designates certain bodies as more worthy, healthy, and desirable than others - is the goal and the lens through which we’ll work. I incorporate elements of intuitive eating into my practice, with particular attention paid to unraveling wellness culture and orthorexia.

  • I hope for and envision a world where anti-fat bias is nonexistent. Until then, I hold space for people in larger bodies who are navigating our fat-phobic culture and the shame and trauma that can often accompany weight stigma. Alongside working to undo the effects of anti-fat bias, I work with folks on radical self-acceptance and self-love. I draw inspiration and direction from the work of Sonya Renee Taylor and her book, The Body is Not an Apology.

  • In my practice, I’ve been privileged to learn about the intersection of gender identity and body image. As a result, I prioritize working with transgender or nonbinary individuals who are navigating gender dysphoria and body dysmorphia. I recognize my cis privilege; part of my growth is to seek and receive regular supervision from peers with lived experience in trans and non-binary spaces. The work of Sand Chang, PhD has been important for my growth and learning here.

How it works

I’m here to learn more about you and hear your story. In our initial appointment, I’ll ask lots of questions about your relationship to food, your body, and your health. We’ll have a conversation about your concerns and any goals you have, and as we continue to work together, we’ll tweak these as needed.

I help clients explore their body concerns, always working from a body liberation framework. I also draw upon Intuitive Eating and Be Body Positive training in my work. As such, I do not offer intentional weight loss plans or restrictive diets to my clients.

All of my clients are private pay on a sliding scale; I don’t currently accept insurance. If my fees are a barrier for you, please contact me and we’ll find a way that works. Most appointments are virtual via Zoom. I also offer in-person appointments on Fridays at The Meeting Point in Jamaica Plain.
